DETAILED ITINERARY: Walking and journey times are approximate |
Day 1: Arrive Lima (Overnight in Lima hotel). Transfer to hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax. |
Day 2: Arrive Cusco (Overnight in Cusco hotel). Fly from Lima to Cusco. Transfer to hotel and meet your tour leader who will be with you during your trip. The rest of the day is free to relax and acclimatise. Take a look round Cusco’s beautiful Main Square with its colonial architecture or take an optional city tour (this can be arranged through your tour leader). |
Day 3: CUSCO-PATABAMBA-HUCHUYQOSQO (camping): Early this morning we travel for 1 ½ hours to the town of Patabamba (3700m), where we will briefly visit the Artisan market. Later we will take a walk along an old horse trail where we will observe the wild vegetation and appreciate the remains of the Inca Path. As we reach the community of Siwa we will ascend gradually. The ascent increases the difficultly of the walk and we will arrive in 1 hours time at the Pukamarka Pass (4200m). Throughout, this hike has a panoramic view of the Sacred Valley and the Inca towns of Pisac, Coya, Lamay, Granary and all the mountains that surround the sector. After the lunch we will descend (approx 1 1/2 hours) to reach at the Archaeological Site of Huchuy Qosqo crossing by the Leon Punku Canyon where we can appreciate the Inca path. Later in the afternoon we visit the archaeological Park that will also serve as our camping place for the night. Approx walk. 5 hours |
Day 4: HUCHUY QOSQO - CHINCHERO – PISAQ (Overnight Pisaq):After the breakfast we begin our trek crossing the small village of Huchuy Qosqo by way of the cultivated farmlands. We walk the stoned covered path until Huallata Pass (4300 m), where we will have a panaramic view of the valley as well as of the mountain range of Vilcanota. We begin our descent (approx. 2 hours) until we reach our place of lunch which is near to the town of Kuper Alto. Here we will take our bus in the direction of Pisaq (3000m). Tonight we spend the night in a hotel in the town of Pisaq. Approx. walking time 5 1/2 hours. |
Day 5: Sacred Valley (Overnight Aguas Calientes): Travel through the Sacred Valley and visit the towns and Inca ruins of Pisaq and Ollantaytambo. Enjoy a delicious lunch at Ollantaytambo and afterwards get a chance to learn a little about the local people and their way of life. In the afternoon we catch the train to Aguas Calientes where we stay for the night in a hotel. |
Day 6: Visit Machu Picchu. (Overnight Cusco): Rise early to take advantage of viewing Machu Picchu in the early morning light, the best time to view the 'Lost City of the Incas'. There is free time to explore on your own after our tour, and the opportunity to climb Wayna Picchu, which will allow you to view Machu Picchu from a different vantage point. In the afternoon we return to our hotel in Cuzco, by train, then bus, arriving in the evening. |

Day 7: Cusco (Overnight Cusco): Free day in Cusco. Enjoy this beautiful colonial city or visit the archeological Inka sites that overlook Cusco: Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Puca-Pucara and Tambomachay. Alternatively use the time to buy some souvenirs. (All this can be arranged in advance with your tour leader). |

Day 8: Ausangate Trek: (Camping): CUSCO - TINKI– PACCHANTA: Today we have an early morning pick up from the hotel and 4 hours travelling by private bus ride to the small village of Tinki (3820 meters), located in a valley south of Cusco. We pass through the beautiful Cusco countryside and several traditional villages, before reaching the small town of Pinchimuro, where we have lunch and meet the rest of our team (handlers and horses/mules). After lunch we hike to the village of Pacchanta (4200m) our campsite for the night. Set up the camping gear and then, if you wish you can enjoy the natural thermal spring until dinner time. Don’t forget your bathing clothes for the hike!! Approx. walking time 3 1/2 hours |
Day 9: PACCHANTA - PACHASPATA: After breakfast we begin our climb from where we can enjoy wonderful vistas not only of Ausangate itself, but of many nearby snow peaks Hatun Punta, Puca Punta and Qolque Cruz. With plenty of time at the top of the pass we continue descending to have the opportunity to see beautiful lakes and multi-coloured lagoons. We may even be lucky enough to see alpacas and the elusive vicuna. After lunch and a rest we hike to our camping place at the Pachaspata (4750m). Approx. walking time 5 hours |

Day 10: PACHASPATA – CHILCA PHINAYA: Today we will encounter the Jampa Pass, our first pass of over 5000m, from which we have the privileged view of the beautiful snow-covered summits of the Vilcanota mountain range. All that remains is for us to descend to the valley of Phinaya 4500m where we set up camp for the night. Approx. walking time 5 hours. |
Day 11: CHILCA PHINAYA – PUCA COCHA: Our Challenge for today is the Palomani Pass (5100m) from which we will have a fantastic view of the south face of Ausangate, following which we will descend until the Ausangate Lagoon where we will have lunch. After our delicious lunch we will be renewed with energy to continue our trek and to the second pass. We then descend to our located camping spot at the foot of Ausangate and the lagoon Puca Cocha.(4570m) Approx. walking time 5 hours |
Day 12: PUCA COCHA - UPIS: One of the least demanding days of our trek, yet even so, we still have an ascent of 4750m. We gently descend the Arapa pass (4765m) to arrive at our lunch spot which also serves as our camp site. After lunch and a brief siesta we will be able to take a comforting bath in the thermal waters that are situated beside our campsite at Upis (4200m). Approx. walking time (4 hours) |
| Day 13: UPIS - TINKI - CUSCO (Overnight Cusco) Our last day trekking in the Cordillera Vilcanota. As we leave the Majestic Ausangate we gently descend into the village of Pinchimuro from where we began our journey. Here the bus shall be waiting to take us back to Cusco. Arriving at lunchtime. Approx. walking time (3 hours) |

Day 14: Ecological Tour, Puerto Maldonado (Overnight Eco Lodge): Fly out to Puerto Maldonado in the Peruvian Amazon. From here we transfer to boats and begin our magical journey along the Madre de Dios River. Enjoy welcome drinks at the lodge and then with the help of our specialized guide we will visit Monkey Island, located only five minutes from the lodge. On the way to the island, we pass many beautiful landscapes with all the flora and fauna that they host. Return to the lodge for dinner and the amazing jungle sunset. |

Day 15: Eco Lodge (Overnight)After breakfast we start our journey with a hike into the depths of the jungle. Along the way our knowledgeable guide will keep us informed on the native flora and fauna. We continue on our walk and arrive at the LOST COCHA (COCHA PERDIDA). The Lost Cocha is a refuge and feeding ecosystem for a tremendous diversity of animals. There, we’ll have the opportunity to observe otters, caimans, turtles, sachavacas, birds of every colour, the majestic jaguar and a variety of fish. This is a unique area, as it belongs to the Ecoamazonia Reserve and remains utterly intact, with large marshes and natural springs. We ascend to an extraordinary vantage point, from where we’ll have a chance to observe the magical jungle. We enjoy a pleasant canoe ride around the lake, before returning to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, we offer an optional visit to the botanical gardens. If you’d rather relax, you can enjoy the Amazonian Pool and dinner. |
Day 16: Arrive Lima (Overnight Lima hotel). Say goodbye to our jungle hosts as we transfer back to Puerto Maldonado and catch our flight to Lima. Your tour leader leaves you to journey onwards to Lima and the rest of the day is free to spend as you wish. The rest of the day is free to spend as you wish. You may want to book a city tour. |
Day:17: Depart Peru: Transfer to airport to catch your international flight. |
