Mother Earth Tours believes that travel should benefit the communities where it happens. Voluntourism with Mother Earth Tours gives tourists the opportunity to work alongside community members on a tour that also includes a visit to the awe-inspiring Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Our project is a sustainable way of supporting and developing communities. You will never forget this unique experience to help our society and close the big gap between Peruvians and foreigners.
Our Project
This hands-on initiative was launched in 2009 along with our partner company “http://www.bucketlisttraveladventures.com” Ontario, Canada. As with most voluntourism projects, travelers split their vacation time helping a community combined with excursions in the countryside and city of Cusco. Our most recent project was located in the community of Chitapampa, a small population located high in the Andes. After discussions with the community we decided to focus our attention on the local school and on improving educational facilities. We also aim to protect the local environment by promoting recycling activities and litter collection in the school. Voluntourists will have the opportunity to help with fundamentals such as, painting the school, helping fix the school roof, teaching English as well as improving their Spanish and learning much more of another culture. In 2009 we also set up an exchange project between Chitapampa School and Sutton Primary School, Ontario. As well as essential donations of school supplies of basic materials the pupils from both schools enjoyed the chance to learn about each others very different cultures.
We believe that one of the most important factors when deciding to implement a project, such as this, is that it doesn't promise miracles or give false hopes to the people that we are trying to help. We believe a little help in the right direction is often better than a big push in the wrong one.
Our Voluntourists
Our voluntourists come from all walks of life and are ready for a challenge, such as learning Spanish, gaining leadership, project development and time management. Generally Mother Earth voluntourists are adventurous, caring, sensible and humble individuals. You can expect to learn and grow as a person while working with the community. Some knowledge of Spanish is preferable but not essential. |
